Hi! I’m Mike
painter and nature enthusiast.
In a world that spins ever faster — where we’re constantly urged to do more, where efficiency rules, and where we seem addicted to stimulation — I turn to my art to find stillness, space, and air. My work rarely begins in a studio full of concepts; it takes shape outside: cycling, in the water, or walking. I’m always searching.
Each painting begins with a strong composition. I’m drawn to images that appear realistic from afar, yet dissolve into brushstrokes up close. Photorealism isn’t my aim — I want the work to breathe, to move, and to carry the emotion I felt in that moment.
To reach that, I need stillness — as a person and as an artist. It’s in stillness that I truly connect with the places I paint. It sharpens my senses to the beauty in small things, the details most might overlook. Often, I can’t name what resonates until I’m painting.
Het Posthuys
I am proud to announce a cooperation with Galerie Het Posthuys (from June 2026 onwards). Het Posthuys aligns perfectly with the Texel atmosphere: sun, air, space, freedom, and of course the sea. I look forward to a fruitful collaboration.
